Emerging Technology Brief

One technological advancement that have proven to be highly effective in healthcare is the use of robotics. Robotics are machines designed and engineered to perform automated cognitive and physical functions, and they are used in performing a wide range of activities (Stahl & Coeckelbergh, 2016). In hospitals, they assist in providing quality and safe care, as well as reducing the routine tasks that health practitioners handle in their work environment (Martin, 2016). Most importantly, the use of robots in health centers is significant due to the shortage of personnel. As Stahl and Coeckelbergh (2016) note, one important aspect of providing care is the need to have a safe staff-patient ratio to assist in reducing burnouts and providing personalized care. With the introduction of robots, health personnel are not overworked, and tasks are completed much faster hence reducing congestion in various departments.

Research Paper Help

Different types of robots can be used for different tasks in the health centers. For example, with the introduction of the da Vinci surgical system, surgical processes are done easily, faster, and in a safe manner. Further, since the purpose of health providers is ensuring health, various activities like packaging should be automated to prevent the possibility of increased contamination (Stahl & Coeckelbergh, 2016). For this, some of the robotic technology that can be applied is the use of Cabots; these assist in product packaging and are more preferable since they provide a sterile environment. With such medical processes are not only made safer, but also cost-efficient since it reduces the need for hiring many health providers (Martin, 2016).

Further, to monitor a patient’s vital statistics, robotic medical assistants are placed in different departments to ensure the nurses are notified of any changes in a patient’s room. Unlike focusing on one patient at a time, nurses are able to check on various patients at the same time (Varshney, 2014). In addition to this, the robotic assistants collect patient information and maintain electronic health records. Since the assistants have in different health centers proven effective, one recommendation that can be made is the use of robotic carts to carry food, medicine, and other supplies in hospitals.

Emerging Technology Brief – Robotics

Clearly, the use of robotics in health provision has proven beneficial in varying ways. However, various ethical concerns also arise based on how robots replace labor. In a health care setting, health practitioners are trained to be empathetic and provide warm care (Stahl & Coeckelbergh, 2016). Although robots assist in improving quality and patient safety, they are not emotional and hence, not in a position to provide better care as the one given by human beings. The machines are too mechanical and cannot identify with patient needs and behaviors. Further, compared to human beings, they are not able to reason morally in case of ethical situations and lack autonomy sense (Stahl & Coeckelbergh, 2016). Other ethical issues arise from the objectives of advocating for such technologies in various areas. Although robots improve quality and reduce cost, they are also a challenge since they replace human beings hence reducing employment opportunities (Martin, 2016). Therefore, as organizations enjoy the benefits of such technologies, it is also important to understand the ethical concerns.

Incorporating Technology in health-centered learning

Incorporating Technology in health-centered learning

  • Reflect on the health-centered learning needs of patients in your community, communities with which you are familiar, or communities abroad. Consider not only patients grouped by geographic location, but also those that represent a functional community, such as expectant mothers or patients with breast cancer or muscular dystrophy.
  • Reflect on the mobile applications and social networking sites you have used for both personal and professional reasons. How might these technologies help to address patient learning needs?
  • Select either a geographic community or functional community to further investigate.
  • Using the websites in this week’s Learning Resources and your own scholarly research, identify specific learning needs of your selected community of patients. The learning need that you select might be associated with a health concern, preventative care practices, health management, or basic patient education.
  • Browse the Internet to select a mobile application, social networking site, or other technology that might be appropriate for your patient community. Once selected, save pictures, videos, and/or capture screenshots that highlight the benefits of this technology.
  • Review the section Guidelines for PowerPoint in Chapter 8 of the Herrman course text.
  • Describe how you would construct a PowerPoint that explains the following:
    • Learning needs of the community, as well as their relevance (i.e. why does this matter? Why should patients and nurses care to address this learning need?)
    • A mobile application (i.e. handheld tablet or smart phone) or social media website that could help to address this need and why
    • Suggestions for using this technology
    • Any concerns or potential problems that might be associated with this technology
    • Follow-up activities to increase the success of patient/nurse integration into daily activities

SAMPLE ANSWER

Incorporating Technology in Community-Based Learning

The use of mobile devices in nursing has led to the development of medical software apps and applications to improve patient care. Mobile devices have helped in medical coding and billing, practice management, diagnosis and treatment, and electronic prescription (West, 2012). Therefore, mobile apps can help nurses answer clinical questions and provide resourceful information that can improve healthcare delivery without visiting the hospital (West, 2012). Therefore, mobile apps are ultimately cost-effective because they help nurses to reach more patients.

Incorporating Technology in health-centered learning

Johns Hopkins Antibiotic Guide (JHABx) is an evidence-based software app that helps in medical education; information gathering, consulting, communication, and health record maintenance and access (Boudreaux et al., 2014). The app allows nurses to identify diagnostic possibilities, appropriate scans and tests to order, reducing cost of care and decreasing unnecessary procedures. The app is essential for helping patients to identify preventive measures, counseling, improving practice efficiency and knowledge and ensuring the quality of data management and accessibility.

The main advantage of using Johns Hopkins Antibiotic Guide (JHABx) as a medical app is that it provides numerous conveniences, including rapid access to information, better clinical decision-making, improve accuracy, efficiency, and productivity (Boudreaux et al., 2014). On the other hand, the major challenge of the app is that lack of privacy and protecting patient data, their lack of reliability for making clinical decisions, increased medicolegal and ethical implications, and its impact on the doctor-patient relationship (Boudreaux et al., 2014).

Johns Hopkins Antibiotic Guide (JHABx is a valuable tool in clinical practice and delivery of health care. However, the app requires the rigorous development of best-practice standards, evaluation, and validation to ensure their safety and quality level in the delivery of healthcare.

SAMPLE ANSWER

The Role of the RN/APRN in Policy Evaluation

Two significant opportunities that RNs and APRNs nurses have to enable them to participate in policy reviews include their capacity to influence health delivery and the professional organizations that they identify with as members (Milstead & Short, 2019). As professionals, nurses contribute towards caregiving for the sick. In this way, they bring into perspective a platform that enables them to care for the patients adequately. Equally, the entry of nurses into areas such as the American Nurses Organization presents a significant opportunity for them realize crucial opportunities in their professional undertaking to enhance policy reviews.

Nursing Paper Help

The opportunities that exist of the nurses may present diverse challenges such as issues pertaining to entry to the professional organizations. The professes of subscribing into those bodies may either be complex or have barriers that make entry difficult especially if the nurses fail to meet the minimum requirements (Shiramizu, Shambaugh, Petrovich, Seto, Ho, Mokuau & Hedges, 2016). Overcoming such a challenge requires the organizations to give clear guidelines on membership criteria. Equally, providing guidance during the registration process would bring many nurses on board. On the other hand, in their capacity to influence health delivery, and ultimately policy reviews, the professionals may lack adequate information to implement the necessary details. Thus, providing the relevant information and making it available for the nurses to use would prove effective in dealing with the impending challenge.

When communicating the opportunities that are available for the professional nurses to enable them adequately participate in policy reviews, the best strategies to implement are timing and leadership (Williams & Anderson, 2018). Through proper timing, it is possible to know when and when not to facilitate those reviews. In this way, it becomes easy to avoid the negative adversities associated with writing timing. Equally, having in place astute leadership would go a long way in facilitating policy reviews. Leadership is an integral ingredient in ensuring that policy review is done accordingly.

The Inclusion of Nurses in the Systems Development Life Cycle

Nurses are important members of the hospital staff and failing to involve them in the entire process of Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) will result in ineffectiveness in its application. According to Qin et al (2017), nurses are best positioned to understand what is required in order to address any underlying issue. Therefore, failure to involve the nurse will mean missing out on important information, which in turn will make any system ineffective or less effective in achieving the goal for which it was supposed to achieve. This discussion explains the importance of including nurses in the systems development life cycle.

Research Paper Help

Nurses should be involved in all stages of systems development life cycle analysis, design, development and testing. In a project such as introduction of Barcodes, nurses best understand units where there is noncompliance as they are the ones that usually interacting with the system (Saleem, Steel, Gercek, & Chandra, 2017). Therefore, they can help in ensuring that the testing for the new system is done and any systems strength and weaknesses noted so that system problems can be addressed. During the implementation phase, nurses are best positioned to provide crucial feedback on areas of strength and weaknesses of a system. Their involvement in the evaluation phase is also vital (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2017). Using the barcode system example, nurses can best offer information on whether issues noted in the system were unit specific or whether they were involving the entire system.

At my work place, I was included in a team that was supposed to select of a new health information system that would collect, store, manage and transmit a patient’s electronic medical record (EMR) efficiently. My involvement in the process as well as the involvement of other nurses was important. This is because we were interacting with the old system daily and we knew the weaknesses especially regarding to its functionability and how it led to time wastage due to constant breakdown. According to Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (n.d), in order to successfully implement health information technology (health IT) in an organization, it is important to recognize the impact it has on both the clinical and administrative workflow. Therefore, we were able to insist on the specific feature that the new system should have in order to best serve the hospital.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Professional Practice Issue and Its Significance

It is common knowledge that in psychiatric mental health nursing, risk aversion has a significant influence, especially in inpatient settings. Safety in mental nursing is not just a goal; it is the priority, especially in inpatient settings. Consequently, nursing care and interventions are overly structured to ensure safety for the individual, other patients, health provider and the environment at large. The overemphasis placed on safety, however well-intentioned and perhaps rightfully so, has resulted in the frequent use of nursing practices, which rather prevents a much-needed development of a therapeutic relationship between the nurse and the client.

The use of Risk Re-evaluation in Safety Management

Across healthcare settings, safety involves concepts that include patient safety, quality improvement and quality assurance. Nowhere is this notion more important than in the nursing practice and more specifically mental health care (Pelto-Piri et al. 2019). Safety in nursing involves protecting patients from harm originating from events in care including lack of staffs, medication errors, lack of effective communication strategies especially during handovers and poor adoption of new technologies (Sherwood, 2015). With limited discussions of patient safety in mental health care institutions, an evidence-based approach that guarantees safety for patients, staff and the public must be developed. To uphold safety, practices that identify risks and take preventive action should constitute the main aim of psychiatric nursing (Slemon, Jenkins & Bungay, 2017). Current psychiatric inpatient settings value safety and maintain it through risk management strategies. In line with this objective, practices are implemented despite availability of evidence refuting their efficacy and patients’ view highlighting harm. Some of these practices include; seclusion, close observations, locking of doors and implementing defensice nursing practices (Slemon, Jenkins & Bungay, 2017). The use of these disputed strategies further emphasizes the need to shift persceptions about safety and risk in care. To offer meaningful treatment to clients, nurses should provide flexible and individualized care that incorporates measures that observe safety. Additionally, nurses should re-evaluate the risk management strategies implemented  to reduce any and all harmful practices.

Safety management in mental health care centers around risk determination and intervention. Safety management also encompasses the assement and mitigation of risks to safety. The main objective of safety risk management is to assess all the risks associated with the identified hazards and to develop effective mitigation strategies (Kaya, Ward & Clarkson, 2018). However, several challenges affect risk management practices in hospitals. Some of these challenges include; lack of transparency, lack of consultation and insuffiecient risk assessment guidelines (Kaya, Ward & Clarkson, 2018). Evaluation of improvement interventions in healthcare is therefore essential to establish whether interventions are beneficial and to understand how they can be replicated (Brewster et al. 2014). But with the existing culture of risk aversion in psychiatric nursing, many restrictive interventions are likely to be utilized even if they may not be therapeutically advantageous for the patient’s recovery. Implementing frequent risks potential re-evaluation and adjusting interventions to create a balance between safety and the development of a therapeutic relationship should become the new priority.

Project Proposal

As a practice issue, poor therapeutic relationship development cannot be underestimated for its value. Building a therapeutic relationship between nurses and clients shouldn’t be sacrificed for safety and viseVersa. Therefore, this project proposes to investigate the usefulness of frequent re-evaluation of the risk potential of clients in inpatient settings. The combination of periodic re-evaluation of risk potential and change of interventions may help cultivate environmental conditions that foster the development of therapeutic relationships.  The PICO questions are as follows;

The use of Risk Re-evaluation in Safety Management

Population/Problem: Mental health clients in inpatient settings experiencing difficulty forming therapeutic relations.

Intervention: Does frequent re-evaluation of potential risk lead to the re-classification of risk level? Also, does the subsequent adjustment of nursing interventions enhance the nurse-client therapeutic relationship?

Comparison: Nurse client therapeutic relations after re-evaluations of risk potential and change in the nursing intervention.

Expected Outcome: Improvement in the nurse-client therapeutic relationship after clients’ risk potential are re-evaluated and nursing intervention changed to promote nurse-client therapeutic interaction

Proposed site(s) to Conduct the Study

Possible places to do this research include Hope House Treatment Center in Laurel, The Maryland Centers for Psychiatry and Oasis: The Center for Mental Health, in Annapolis, Maryland.

AACN DNP essentials that may be challenging in the implementation of the Project and how to Overcome them

The practice issue identified in this project touches on safety and quality. Information systems and technology are at the center of safe and quality patient-centered care (DeCapua, 2016). To prepare for a doctors of nursing practice, nurses should utilize patient care technologies to supplement their decision making process. Understanding new technologies is at the center of healthcare delivery. To ensure compliance with this essential, the project will evaluate existing technologies in safety management practices and investigate how they are implemented in psychiatric care.

The use of Risk Re-evaluation in Safety Management

To actively engage in policy development, DNP graduates must identify problems in healthcare and spearhead legislation to mitigate these problems. additionally, DNP graduates are expected to spearhead legislation by actively advocating for social justice and consensus building. Implementing this essential is challenging. However, the project will reach out to Mental Health America, an organization that advocates for legislation and policies to improve the lives of people struggling with mental health issues (Mental Health America, 2019). Additionally, the project will advocate for the adoption of levels of safety to reduce safety issues in psychiatric inpatient settings (Bayramzadeh, 2016).

To improve patient care and health outcomes, professional collaboration is of the utmost importance. As a DNP graduate, one is expected to lead inter-professional teams in the investigation of practices and issues affecting communication. Likewise, DNP graduates are expected to take up leadership roles in the development and implementation of models in addition to other scholarly projects (DeCapua, 2016)

Nursing Paper Help

To implement the proposed interventions, several members of the healthcare team will need to understand why, when and how the project should be implemented. Timely communication between various team members becomes very crucial since time is of the essence between re-evaluation of a patient’s risk potential and subsequent change in the intervention. Nurses would need to be communicated the changes in re-evaluation results in a timely fashion to allow for the adjustment of treatment interventions. To help facilitate that process considering that critical information may be entered in electronic systems but not necessarily communicated to healthcare providers who make changes to treatment modalities, SBAR, should be used by nurses each time re-evaluation is complete and results reported to healthcare providers.

Greatest challenge or problem for women in the world or in America today

In the contemporary world, women are often involved in all parts of the society. However, there are some matters which often affect these women in different magnitude. The challenges ranges from the power for women to vote to reproductive rights as well as yap gap. The consistency of these issues has been addressed in different international platforms to improve the existing challenges that women experience in the world. therefore, it is essential to understand sex trafficking as one of the greatest challenges affecting women in the United States of America.

One of the greatest challenges some women face in the world and in the United States is sex trafficking. Sex trafficking can be described as type of human trafficking which consist of commercial sexual exploitation which takes place in the United States of America and other parts of the world.  Similarly, these activities involve the transportation of people through the means of deception, coercion or even forceful exploitation to other places in the world (Fedina, Celia and Perdue 2360). the people associated with sex trafficking often target women and girls because they are considered to the most vulnerable individuals. Their main in the trade is to obtain wealth and power around the world. as a result, it has been considered to be a big problem for women in the United States and all around the world. substantially this is because they undergo or being drugged, beaten, raped, starved, abused, get sexual transmitted diseases and kidnapped (Fedina, Celia and Perdue 2360). Notably, the background for these victims is that they come from poverty and some girls often escape from their homes to join the activity without intent of knowing what would happen next. In some cases, some women and girls are being sold by their family members into the sex trade business (Fedina, Celia and Perdue 2360). This tradition can be traced from the early slavery trade which took place in Africa where women were caught and being sold to cross through Atlantic to get into the sex trade business. However, it is essential to note that in the U.S. many advocates are trying to end the illegal trade business because many women have become the victim. According to Geoff Rogers, cofounder of the United States Institute Against Human Trafficking, “the United States is the No. 1 consumer of sex worldwide” since the society have become part of the driving force behind its generation (Keiper, Andrew & Perry Chiaramonte, par. 5).

Sex trafficking continues to be a problem with the societies in the global and United States of America due to various measures taken by the involved individuals in the activity. The industry is considered to be a multi-million-dollar business for these involved people. Besides, there returns on the activity has proven to yield more profits than expected ordinary business activities. They are desperate to make money and will do or take any necessary action to achieve their mission (Varma et al. 99). Notably, most of the involved individuals in the sex trafficking are mainly the criminal organizations. The margins for profits are increasingly high for this business. However, despite the involvement of women and girls being trafficked, they don’t make money in this business.  These sex traffickers are evil in regards to their actions since they do not care about the age of girls being used in the trading activity (Varma et al. 103). Many women are victims of this horrific act and it is essential for them to be identified to get support from these criminal gangs misusing their lives.

The traffickers in this business have measures and mechanisms to manipulate the system in their favor. Substantially this is another issue which makes sex trafficking to continue in the contemporary world. further, they know their way into powerful leaders and government officials.  Many sex traffickers are aware of the fact that some women are desperate to make money because their poverty background. Some of the actively involved women would also use or lure other girls to obtain or get favors for nit directly being involved in the activity. As a result, it enables them to continue with the activity in the long run. According to Julie Bindel, “One Albanian woman told me that the only way she could escape her own trafficker after five years in London brothel was to agree to return home and bring back fresh victims. “I had to go to my town and tell the girls there that I knew from school that there were great opportunities in the UK for them, you know, as waitresses and even as dancers,” says Elda” (Bindel par. 8). There are extreme actions which some of these women would use to escape can be harmful when they are caught. There is no win/lose situation for the victim because the trafficker is only thinking about making money. This issue continues to be a problem for women because it’s a multi-billion-dollar industry for the traffickers.

Greatest challenge for women in the world or in America today

The responsible agencies dealing with such cases in the world should develop essential solution to prevent cases of sex trafficking in the world. the concern from the individuals saves from this experience depict hash conditions undergone that needs to be addressed by both the lobbyists and legislatures in most countries in the world (Nichols, and Heil 15). substantially, this is because it is a serious crime and these criminals should be severely punished for life because they are damaging the lives of so many women that are in the industry. There are a few possible solutions that we can prevent sex trafficking in the world.  Learning the indicators of human trafficking is one of the potential measures which needs to be put into consideration. There are different parties who should participate to ensure these indicators are determined accordingly (Nichols, and Heil 15). These may consist of law enforcement agencies, educators, federal workers as well as the entire society suspicious of these activities around their neighborhood. The need to promote education regarding this issue should be the primary focus to detect the possibility of the matter. Nonetheless, the collaboration of these parties would be useful to successfully improve the concern of preventing sex trafficking.Greatest challenge for women in the world or in America today

The establishment of promotional programs within the society is the way to prevent sex trafficking claims.  The benefit of this is to involve people in the communities’ help stop this crime faster. Having more advertisement and also donating to anti-trafficking organizations will push more people to help around the world. We can spread awareness in areas that we feel that sex-trafficking is being targeted the most. The other measure to the solution is to take action on colleges, schools and other institutions to establish awareness campaign on human trafficking which leads to sex trafficking among women and girls (Bryant et al. 19). The involvement of College students will make a difference for young women because people will take them seriously to fight this crime. Once students get involve many parents and family members want to participate in helping the community. Even celebrities can get involve since many people look up to them as role model. Some women are lure into thinking they going to work as models or make a lot of money working for a good company (Bindel par. 12).  The promise given to most young innocent girls deceived for sex trafficking is mainly jobs which would sustain their families. The feeling to know that some people are being used and sold like products is not ethically correct. Therefore, developing these initiatives needs to be implemented to minimize or prevent the situation completely within the society. The U.S need to have more advertising on sex trafficking and they need to educate our children in school districts and at job sites as well (Keiper & Chiaramonte par. 9). Just like we have Amber Alerts we need to have alerts traffickers because this demand is becoming increasing high. The government needs to make this their top priority to stop sex trafficking all around the world

Sex trafficking is not an ethical activity because it violates human rights in the world. Therefore, I feel sex trafficking is a crime and holding someone against their own will is ethically wrong. People should be allowed or given the freedom to do their activities at will or have sex at will. I feel we should all come as a whole and be better advocates of sex trafficking. The media needs to get more involve and we need to have sex trafficking awareness in every community (Bryant et al. 18). The media should hold interviews with woman that have escaped the industry and talk to schools’ officials about how they can help and become more involve. I feel the government should also get involve and reach out to small or big businesses on how they can help to spread the word. There should also be classes taught in all school districts on how to avoid a trafficker if students come in contact with a trafficker. These classes would be helpful to many young students (Bryant et al. 19). We also need to talk to the victims and ask them if they would be interested talking to students in schools’ districts about their experience and alarm them of the red flags when being approach from a sex trafficker

Greatest challenge for women in the world or in America today

The government should provide more employment opportunities to people so that sex trafficking can be minimized in the long run. There are measures which needs to be put into consideration to prevent cases of sex trafficking of women and young girls. The first step is to look at social media and determine ways to stop cases of human trafficking (Bryant et al. 19). The involved criminals should be investigated by the relevant agencies in the world such as the FBI across the world. developing programs which can undercover these operations should be implemented and approved by the government agencies and authorities to help the affected individuals (Nichols, and Heil 15). We should also put our focus on the victim health conditions too because they will need psychological help. These women will need years of intensive treatment to recover from their pain. It’s important that we make sure the victims mental health is not causing them any harm. Experts need to make sure that the women affected by this crime have a normal life as much as possible because the goal is to make them feel protected. It’s a shame to think that human trafficking is considered to be the modern-day slave trade. This problem is so big all across the world and the United States. The government needs to illegalize this crime because this is forced labor. Not much have been done to end this horrific act. No woman or girl should ever be kidnapped from any part of the world to make money. It is an inhumane act and I believe in we should respect our rights in every aspect of our lives. I believe together we can fight sex trafficking and help the victims that are being dragged into this industry. If we can sign into our social media account every day, we should have a page dedicated on social media on women or girls that have been kidnapped (Nichols & Heil 15). Then we should send alerts on our phones to friends and family members to remind them that this industry must end and to help find the victims. Hearing it on the news or just talking about it every now and then is not good enough to spread the word. Not everyone is paying as much attention but uniting a whole will make a difference to end this heinous act. The government needs to protect our citizens and crack down on those involve in this crime.

SAMPLE ANSWER

The Use of Clinical Systems to Improve Outcomes and Efficiencies

Clinical systems are integral elements in the healthcare sector. They contribute towards improving the outcomes and efficiencies in service delivery within the elaborate healthcare systems. This paper aims to analyze relevant literature on various clinical systems and how they help in the improvement of outcomes together with effectiveness and efficiency in dealing with health problems.

Rao-Gupta, Kruger, Leak, Tieman, and Manworren (2018) conducted a study on the leveraging of the interactive care technology to bring effective pain management on the patients. The study was primarily to find a way of easing the pain on children while undergoing treatment in the hospitals. The pain management mechanisms in place at the time were unsatisfactory, leading to the development of the clinical care system. The authors were trying to examine how the use of the care system would significantly lead to the improvement of pain management. Consequently, the common understanding is that interactive care technology was integral in easing the pain on the children on its utilization. This led to increased satisfaction in the pain management responses, following the increased effectiveness in the evaluation of treatments and pain assessment.

Nursing Paper Help

The application of the peer-review article by Rao-Gupta et al (2018) brings into perspective the understanding that care technologies are important in making certain care functions manageable. This led to increased overall satisfaction for the families with patient suffering from pain while undergoing treatment. Equally, it is critical for the care facility to be cognizant and sensitive to the pains of both patients and their families as part of the experiences that they give to the general public. This is critical in the appreciation of the role of clinical systems in the management of and support of life. In the study, the use of the pediatric surgical unit patients to conduct the assessment on the effectiveness of the pain management system is vital in bringing a wholesome understanding of the whole perspective. Thus, it goes into record as one creative realization contributing to positive development in the health sector.

The study by Skiba (2017) examines the use of digital systems in the facilitation of healthcare delivery to the public. The digital tools are of critical importance in ensuring that there is an establishment of critical links between care providers and consumers of health services. The clinical systems space provides an avenue for working towards ensuring that health management becomes easy. The assessment of those systems gives a glimpse of what an ideal care system should look like.

The takeaway from the research is that there is an increasing diversity in healthcare courtesy of the invention and innovation of social media and related apps. It has brought effectiveness in health services delivery in the sector. Social media and mobile apps tools have ensured that service delivery takes place across the board. The integration of the applications into the clinical systems has transformed the health sector significantly. A good example of those applications is the myoclonic social media and apps in both Apple and Android stores (Skiba, 2017).

Gabriel, Quaresma, Secca and Vieira (2018) investigated the use of the stereo vision system in conducting an assessment of the spine. The clinical system has overseen the realization of immense changes in the spinal columns, contributing to recovery in the patients. The Vertebra Metrics understanding becomes an essential tool in evaluating the pain aspects. This has led to improvements in dealing with back pains. The clinical system comes an innovation that is contributing to the realization better health. The wholesome understanding of how technology works make the clinical setting effective in the delivery of care.

The Use of Clinical Systems to Improve Outcomes and Efficiencies

The Vertebral Metrics clinical system has been integral in dealing with back pains in patients (Gabriel, Quaresma, Secca & Vieira, 2018). This leads to increased overall efficiency in the offering of health services to patients with issues in the vertebra. The clinical application of the system as a tool for dealing with vertebral issues has brought immense changes in the health sector. The takeaway from the whole undertaking becomes a critical way of gauging the effectiveness of services offered in the health sector, and the far that improvements have come into perspective.

Huang, Goo, Behara and Agarwal (2018) studied the system for the management of COPD-readmission risk. The readmission risk indicator checks on the quality of patient care for those dealing with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Conducting the study using live data made it possible to establish reliable outcomes of the whole process. The whole undertaking enhanced the realization of how the clinical system deals with the issue at hand. In this way, the clinical system goes into records as one of the tools that have managed to achieve its intended purpose in as far as healthcare delivery is concerned.

The primary lesson of the study is that the clinical support system immensely enhances the reduction of readmission statistics for patients’ dealing with chronic illnesses. Consequently, the whole study reaffirms the importance of the clinical support system. Its efficiency in performing its intended function is unmatched. Essentially, the whole undertaking to apply the system in dealing with chronic ailments for patients in several hospitals helps manage the diseases effectively and efficiency. In this way, the improvement of the outcomes is unavoidable, contributing to the growth and development of the entire health sector. This paves way for continuous improvements and innovations to help improve the health sector. In their study, Huang, Goo, Behara, & Agarwal (2018) have found that the readmission risk, which was problematic in the past, has slowly faded due to the clinical system in place.

Safdari, GhaziSaeedi, Masoumi-Asl, Rezaei-Hachesu, Mirnia and Samad-Soltani (2018), in their review study, focus critically on the antimicrobial resistance surveillance systems applicable in the clinical settings. The systems work through the integration of diverse elements. In this way, they are in a position to achieve their functionality largely. This helps put mechanisms in place to deal with the resistance, which is a public health menace in many countries.

The Use of Clinical Systems to Improve Outcomes and Efficiencies

The study is a success courtesy of the fact that it manages to reveal how the resistance surveillance system help deal with the problem (Safdari, et al., 2018). Essentially, the whole review reveals to a large extent the importance of the antimicrobial resistance surveillance system. In this way, it becomes possible to evaluate other ways of handling the issue at hand. The effectiveness and efficiency that comes with putting in place the right mechanisms for dealing with the problem. This makes innovativeness and creativity in the health sector at its peak.

In conclusion, the review of the relevant literature gives a brief overview of what the authors examine. The subsequent lessons from the study contribute towards the understanding of how the clinical systems are of critical importance in the whole undertaking. This is critical in working towards ensuring that there is a check of the whole health sector to ensure that it offers the relevant services to the intended level. In this way, it becomes possible to appreciate the role of the health sector in enhancing lives.

2- At the location/event you should take notes. Look for common behaviors (what everyone does-Normal social behavior) and look for outliers or abnormal behaviors (things that seem odd or out of place-what we would thing is typically not normal behavior for that setting).

3- Write up your paper. To do this you need to  follow the directions in the assignment description and rubric because those are the components I am looking for when I grade.

*First, start by writing a few sentences about the activity itself – what the event was, how long you observed, and why you chose it.

*Next, summarize your observations using sociological inquiry. Discuss your thoughts on the common social interaction patterns between the people.

*Describe any behaviors that stand out.

Note: Your writing should illustrate your understanding of the content from Units 1 and 2, and it should use 2-3 relevant concepts from those units. This means that I should see you referencing the OpenStax book and infusing that information with what you observed.
Your paper should be without grammar and spelling mistakes and have a references page at the end.

Purpose:

The purpose of this assignment is to identify common patterns of social behavior within a specific social event or a social setting. Your writing will illustrate your ability to interpret human interactions via a social lens, using the content from units one through four.

Activity:

Conduct a participant observation procedure by observation a group/social event. The event could be a trip to a theme park, enjoying a play at a theater, or a dinner with family at a restaurant. It could also be attending a religious gathering, hanging out with friends at a coffee shop, attending a sports event like a baseball or a basketball game, celebrating a cultural holiday, or attending a meeting at your workplace.

The paper should have a title page in APA format. First, start by writing a few sentences about the activity itself – what the event was, how long it was, and why you chose it. SAMPLE ANSWER

Sociological inquiry at an African wedding ceremony in our community

The activity that was selected was a wedding ceremony that took place at the community center. The wedding was between two individuals of African ancestry. Their origin was determined by the different aspects such as the dressing code that was mainly African and the music that was played as well as the cuisine. Although there were other guests of other races including Whites and Indians, there was a heavy presence of Africans among the guests. The event involved the wedding itself, where the groom and bride took their vows and swore to be together through different circumstances and the people in the audience served as witnesses to the bond that was created. The exchange of vows was followed by a reception that took place at the same venue.

I chose the wedding mainly because weddings are diverse and also involve a wide range of people as compared to other events such as cooperate meetings that would have people of similar characteristics. Also, weddings are events that take so much effort in the preparations such as the decorations, food, music as well as the party and they would serve as a heightened example of front stage behavior. Weddings are also social performances and involve several aspects of performance. They include the guests who come to witness the marriage, and the wedding party made up of the couple getting married, their parents and bridal party. Also, there is the priest or person who officiates the marriage and the performance also has costumes that come out as differing based on the roles that people are playing. In addition to the host and the party, there are several other people such as the associates and friends who represent different things.

Research Paper Help

I attended the reception because by the time I arrived, the exchange of vows was over and the procession was heading towards the reception ceremony. This session of the event involved eating and drinking as well as music and dance as well as different presentations aimed at entertaining the newly married couple as well as the guests. I was at the event for about one hour and I was able to observe different behaviors among the people in the event.

There was a mix of different behaviors and included both normal and deviant behaviors. One of the norms of weddings is the attire that people wear to weddings. The majorities of the guests had decent attires and were all dressed to impress. There was clear evidence of elegance among the guests and especially the ladies. However, amid the guests was one lady that was putting on ripped jeans, T-shirt, and flip-flops. At any point that she passed, people stared and beckoned others to see her, indicating that the outfit that she was wearing was not suitable for the kind of event that she was in.

During the ceremony, there were opportunities to offer congratulations to the bride and groom. Many people visited them at the point where they were standing and would spend a few minutes with them and pave way for others to take a turn to offer the congratulatory messages. One thing that struck my attention as a particular woman that visited the couple and seemed to hog them. She kept talking to them, and wiping the bride’s face and adjusting the groom’s tie and kept hugging them for longer than what others took. The people that were behind her in the line were getting agitated and some of them began going back to their seats. It took the intervention of the mother of the bride, who politely asked her to leave but a scuffle ensued as she was taken away from the couple creating an awkward moment.

Sociological inquiry at an African wedding ceremony

The ceremony involved dance and people took different turns to dance to their favorite tunes and also entertain the couple by joining them. Most of the people kept o the rhythm and engaged in graceful moves in line with the beats of the traditional songs that were playing. Out of the blues, there came a group of four youths who joined the dance and started showing their moves. They took turns outdoing each other as the rest of the audience cheered them on. This went on for a while until a point when the dance moves seemed to be inappropriate as was evidenced by the response from the audience. Many of the women started covering their eyes in shame and the cheering reduced. They danced in a manner that was explicit and involved moves made by throwing or thrusting their hips back or shaking their buttocks, often in a low squatting stance. This made the majority of the guests and especially the elderly to appear uncomfortable. One of them walked up to the deejay and asked him to switch off the music and play something “decent” and “appropriate” for the ceremony.

Another behavior that came out during the ceremony was the way people enjoyed the drinks. There was champagne around every corner and consequently, it was difficult to resist a celebratory cocktail. Some people were clam about it and were able to sit calmly, while others drank as they mingled with others happily. However, some got so drunk and they made fools of themselves. Some of them became too emotional and started shouting and crying and this made everyone uncomfortable.

Sociological inquiry at an African wedding ceremony

In conclusion, the exercise made me realize that weddings have various sociological meanings about how people should behave and the meanings of certain rituals. Some of the behaviors that were seen as deviant included, a wardrobe malfunction, excessively drunk relatives and friends, guests that hogged the time spent by the couple as well as the group that danced inappropriately. However, the majority of the guests conformed to the norms of a wedding and everyone was very happy for the couple.

Opportunities for RNs and APRNs in Policy Review

Opportunities for RNs and APRNs in Policy Review

In the Module 4 Discussion, you considered how professional nurses can become involved in policy-making. A critical component of any policy design is evaluation of the results. How comfortable are you with the thought of becoming involved with such matters?

Some nurses may be hesitant to get involved with policy evaluation. The preference may be to focus on the care and well-being of their patients; some nurses may feel ill-equipped to enter the realm of policy and political activities. However, as you have examined previously, who better to advocate for patients and effective programs and polices than nurses? Already patient advocates in interactions with doctors and leadership, why not with government and regulatory agencies?

In this Discussion, you will reflect on the role of professional nurses in policy evaluation.

To Prepare:

  • In the Module 4 Discussion, you considered how professional nurses can become involved in policy-making.
  • Review the Resources and reflect on the role of professional nurses in policy evaluation.

By Day 3 of Week 9

Post an explanation of at least two opportunities that currently exist for RNs and APRNs to actively participate in policy review. Explain some of the challenges that these opportunities may present and describe how you might overcome these challenges. Finally, recommend two strategies you might make to better advocate for or communicate the existence of these opportunities. Be specific and provide examples.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Policy and Advocacy for Improving Population Health

There are a number of opportunities that currently exist for RNs and APRNs to actively participate in policy review. One of the opportunities existing for RNs and APRNs is participating in policy reviews in the professional bodies (Cziraki, Read, Spence & Wong, 2018). In this, the nurses join the many organizations for nurses in all categories such as the American Nurses Organization. The bodies largely influence the implementation of the policies. The second role relates to the influencing the healthcare delivery programs (Crowne, Young, Goldman, Patterson, Krouse & Proenca, 2017). The nurses contribute towards the promotion of quality health for the populace. The RNs and APRNs in their capacity enhance the promotion of the policies to facilitate their effectiveness.

Nursing Paper Help

The professional bodies may experience the challenge of complexity when it comes to the process of member registration (Nyborg, Danbolt & Kirkevold, 2017). Thus, many qualified nurses are unable to join professional organizations. However, dealing with the problem requires putting in place a simple elaborate process. This is achievable through having a dynamic leadership to oversee such requirements. Consequently, it is challenging for the nurses who have no updates on the policies to participate in their review. This hinders them not only to ensure appropriate care delivery but also prevents them from undertaking policy review opportunities. Thus, the nurses require adequate information on the policy changes to ensure that the implementation phase becomes seamless. Poor leadership and skills are also problems that require active inquiries to rectify any loopholes that might hinder effective service delivery.

The effective strategies for facilitating the communication of the opportunities include training and quality leadership (Al-Hussami, Hamad, Darawad & Maharmeh, 2017). Through training, the nurses grasp a better understanding of their work environment, as well as their role in implementing the relevant policies to ensure quality healthcare. Equally, leadership is responsible for ensuring that the nurses have the democratic mandate of reviewing and speaking their views on a given policy. The leaders should also provide a platform for the nurses to do the policy reviews.

Nurse Involvement in the Implementation Process

Nurse Involvement in the Implementation Process

In the media introduction to this module, it was suggested that you as a nurse have an important role in the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC). With a focus on patient care and outcomes, nurses may not always see themselves as contributors to the development of new systems. However, as you may have observed in your own experience, exclusion of nurse contributions when implementing systems can have dire consequences.

In this Discussion, you will consider the role you might play in systems development and the ramifications of not being an active participant in systems development.

To Prepare:

  • Review the steps of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) as presented in the Resources.
  • Reflect on your own healthcare organization and consider any steps your healthcare organization goes through when purchasing and implementing a new health information technology system.
  • Consider what a nurse might contribute to decisions made at each stage of the SDLC when planning for new health information technology.

  • Post a description of what you believe to be the consequences of a healthcare organization not involving nurses in each stage of the SDLC when purchasing and implementing a new health information technology system. Provide specific examples of potential issues at each stage of the SDLC and explain how the inclusion of nurses may help address these issues. Then, explain whether you had any input in the selection and planning of new health information technology systems in your nursing practice or healthcare organization and explain potential impacts of being included or not in the decision-making process. Be specific and provide examples.

Nurse Involvement in the Implementation Process

Nurse leaders should be involved in the planning and implementation stages of new health information technology systems. Health information technologies improve delivery of care, are efficient and guarantee population health (Qin et al. 2017). Nurses are better placed to identify and resolve systemic issues and also provide possible solutions. Therefore, including nurses in the planning and implementation stages improves effective execution of IT systems, assists in the development of technology solutions, increases nurses’ buy-in of the system and ensures implementation of health IT solutions (Weckman & Janzen, 2014). In a System Development Life Cycle (SDLC), the planning stage involves evaluation of the problem and deciding on effective solutions (Kramer, 2018). When implementing a barcode medication administration system, nurse involvement in the implementation stage ensures all patient needs are met. During system analysis, end user requirements are determined and a feasibility study conducted to make sure expectations are met. The design phase stipulates the elements of the system and the type of data required. After understanding all the system requirements, system implementation is conducted. When modifying medication application systems in healthcare settings, nurses are better placed to provide feedback on system performance (Weckman & Janzen, 2014). System testing and integration involves introducing the system to different settings and analyzing outputs. During project evaluation, forming focus groups with nurses is useful in understanding system concerns. Lastly, the system maintenance phase calls for periodic system maintenance to improve efficiency and accuracy. Overall nurses’ involvement in the SDLC improves project outcomes.

When my organization was implementing an electronic health records system, all nurses were included in the selection and planning stages. This in turn improved acceptance and attitudes towards the EHR and ultimately reduced resistance to change.
