My background as a Registered Nurse is working in the adult Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). I wanted to advance my career and work with patients to help prevent admissions to the MICU. 

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Virginia. My Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) was also completed at the University of Virginia, specializing in Adult Gerontology.

Schooling and Job Search

I found my current job through networking and applying to positions aligned with my expertise and career goals.

Salary and Benefits Negotiation

As a newly graduated NP, I was unable to negotiate my salary. The benefits package was also non-negotiable.

Typical Day and Patient Demographics

I work in a bustling Primary Care practice and see patients 18 years and older. I start my day by reviewing patient information regarding the reason for their visit. Throughout the day, I complete patient evaluations, work with patients to develop individual treatment plans, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals as needed to ensure comprehensive care.

Performance Evaluation

Peer reviews, patient feedback, and performance metrics evaluate my performance.

Conflict Management and Cultural Competency

I use active listening, and negotiation skills to address any active or forseeable conflicts. Cultural competency is integral to my practice, as it allows me to provide culturally sensitive care and respect the diverse backgrounds of my patients.
