NURS 708: Discussion 6.1 Informatics
The proliferation of telemedicine, telehealth, and informatics is indispensable in nursing commissions and education. Nurses have been active in informatics for four decades, and the advantages, directly and indirectly, impact patients and nursing positively (Darvish et al., 2014). Telemedicine, telehealth, and informatics have impacted my career: access to high-quality medical care, electronic health record enhancement, improved healthcare disciplinary collaboration, patient/nurse reciprocity, and quality outcomes (Bonsall, 2024).
I have observed a renewed sense of autonomy, evidence-based suggestions, reduced workload and paperwork, expeditious interventions, and improved clinical shrewdness (Khan Rony et al., 2023). Leadership must embrace and facilitate these changes by cultivating an environment that promotes advancing technology, furnishes training and resources, and prepares nurses for the future (Khan Rony et al., 2023). Artificial intelligence (AI) positively affects nurse leader roles by refining online scheduling programs and uniformly allocating resources (Darvish et al., 2014).
AI is not meant to replace human judgment but to analyze a multitude of patient data to recognize patterns of decline to support early recognition of life-threatening events (Bonsall, 2024). As a whole, AI has affected nursing by reducing nursing workload, continuously monitoring patients in real-time, using wearable devices, analyzing patient acuity to ensure appropriate assignments and staffing, and using E-Learning. DNP-prepared nurses engage in roles that impact systems leadership and quality improvement. DNPs merge healthcare technology to enhance quality care and access (Innovations in Nursing: How DNP-Prepared Nurses Are Leading, n.d.). Through AI initiatives, DNP-prepared nurses can close healthcare delivery gaps and advance the healthcare industry.
