There are many ways graphical information is communicated to both patients and colleagues. Many hospital committees assess and evaluate the data entered into the electronic medical record (EMR). Graphs can be used to display infection rates such as CAUTI or CLABSI. The results of patient surveys are often displayed as bar graphs with the different categories of the survey using a benchmark line to show where the score should be. Displaying data in a graph or table allows various audiences to understand the information displayed (Displaying the data, 2019). Any data can be graphed to enable viewers to understand information quickly. In the emergency department, blood culture contamination rates are often graphed to show improvement over time. When displaying data, it is imperative to describe the variables within the graph so that viewers can understand the data shown (Pilchta et al., 2019).
