Purpose

The purpose of the graded Collaboration Café is to engage students with their peers in an interactive dialogue to organize, integrate, apply, and critically appraise knowledge for nurse practitioner (NP) practice. Meaningful dialogue fosters the development of a learning community as ideas, perspectives, and knowledge are shared. This Collaboration Café supports the professional formation of the nurse practitioner role. 

Course Outcomes

This assignment enables the student to meet the following course outcomes:

• CO 1: Identify the most commonly prescribed agents in the major drug classes. (POs 1, 2)
• CO 2: Make appropriate evidence-based therapeutic treatment decisions for individual patients utilizing drugs from the major drug classes. (POs 1, 2)
• CO 3: Apply knowledge of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and pharmacogenomics in prescribing patient treatment. (POs 1, 2)
• CO 4: Distinguish internal and external environment factors affecting drug action, reaction, efficacy, and interaction. (POs 1, 2)
• CO 5: Identify client indicators of therapeutic, ineffective, adverse responses and side effects to drug therapy. (POs 1, 2)

Preparing the Collaboration Café 

Follow these guidelines when completing each component of the Collaboration Café. Contact your course faculty if you have questions. 

Include the following sections: 

1. Application of Course Knowledge: Answer all questions/criteria with explanations and detail. Look back at your initial post and respond to peers and faculty that have commented.
   1. Reflect on your learning experience in this course. Which concepts stood out to you and made an impact?  How do you envision using these concepts in your future nursing practice as a master’s prepared nurse?
   2. Describe how course learning activities and assignments will help you achieve Program Outcome 1: Provide high-quality, safe, patient-centered care grounded in holistic health principles.
   3. Describe how course assignments or activities will help you achieve ONE of the sub-competencies from the advanced-level nursing education competencies from AACN Essentials Competency 1.2 Apply theory and research-based knowledge from nursing, the arts, humanities, and other sciences.
      1. 1.2f: Synthesize knowledge from nursing and other disciplines to inform education, practice, and research.
      2. 1.2g: Apply a systematic and defendable approach to nursing practice decisions.
      3. 1.2h: Employ ethical decision-making to assess, intervene, and evaluate nursing care.
      4. 1.2i: Demonstrate socially responsible leadership.
