wk 4

Directions

Revise your Week 3 draft and complete the remaining Key Elements of Chapter 1, sections 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. Your readings from both textbooks will assist you with this discussion, as will Chinn & Kramer. Refer to Chinn & Kramer Chapter 1 (in this week’s readings) to review all five ways of knowing. Each pattern is detailed in subsequent chapters if needed.

The significance of your project should be discussed under three sections of significance. These include general nursing, and under this, additional subheadings on each pattern of knowing and how the project informs each pattern. Then discuss health care significance and advanced practice significance. See Key Elements of Chapter 1 for how to format these headings.

Discuss the administrative support for your project and procedures (such as IRB) needed for successful implementation. The benefit of your project to practice, a summary conclusion, and references are needed.

Sections 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 should be about five to seven pages, for a total of 10 to 14 pages for the full Chapter 1 (not including title and reference pages).

  1. Significance of your Project: Three sections, which can include a mix of primary or secondary sources with very limited use of websites. Include these three areas:
    1. Significance for nursing general practice as a whole, with each pattern of knowing (see Chinn and Kramer, 2011, in Week 2) as a subheading. Introduce each pattern briefly and then discuss how your project will inform each of these patterns individually.
    2. Significance for health care at large, including statistics on how the practice change, QI, policy, or clinical guideline may affect healthcare at an economic level and a social level.
    3. Significance for advanced practice nurses.
  2. Support for Project: One paragraph; no citations. How will your practice (where you work) support your project? Think about people, place, and process. Do not discuss budget, which will be included in Chapter 3. Discuss whether your setting has an IRB or any process you will need to adhere to. Include that you will seek Maryville IRB approval, as needed for the level of your project.
  3. Benefit of Project to Practice: One paragraph; no citations. How will your project benefit your specific practice setting?
  4. Conclusion: One longer paragraph, often a half page; include a summary of the important points outlined in your paper. This is not the place to introduce anything new to the reader. Do not repeat sentences verbatim from your paper.
  5. References: You will need 10 to 15 references. They can be a combination of primary and secondary sources. Use very few websites.
