Emotional intelligence (EI), also known as emotional quotient (EQ), is defined as the ability to identify, control, and manage emotions and utter them respectfully and helpfully to people around you (Bukkapatnam, 2023). Some interventions and interventions are suggested to increase and improve my emotional intelligence, as suggested in my report and Emotional Intelligence 2.0 book. These interventions include self-awareness, communicating, practicing active listening skills, being aware of how others feel, being empathetic, listening to feedback, being open-minded, and staying calm under pressure. Clear communication is attained through being communicative as much as possible and providing more ways for others to share their feelings (Liddle, 2023). Active listening is a very vital aspect when it comes to resolving conflicts. Active listening assists in quickly de-escalating tension and building stronger professional relationships.
I have shown my colleagues that I am a good listener who strives to understand the other party opposing their suggestions without getting upset. I have been able to stay calm in stressful situations. In the future, I would like to retain the same strategies for resolving employee conflicts. The reasons are that the strategies employed have posted positive outcomes, increased productivity, and built a strong relationship. Improved emotional intelligence enhances self-awareness, inspires empathy, facilitates self-regulation, promotes communication, and encourages collaborative problem-solving. Emotional intelligence can be used in several ways to manage negative expressions and hostility when dealing with dysfunctional behaviors and conflict (Choi et al., 2024). Some ways include being conscious and self-aware to know the causes of conflicts and their consequences. Another way is to have self-discipline as conflict resolution choices are made. The final way is mastering negative thoughts and feelings.
