Often times researchers have an initial plan to obtain data and may find themselves drifting from the original topic. Qualitative data can be useful for research in the healthcare field to improve quality initiatives and patient care. Researchers must develop a plan on how to store, collect, manage, store, retrieve, and analyze data. Data can be collected and saved manually or electronically to stay organized and avoid becoming overwhelming. One strategy that can be used to stay organized is creating copies of important data collected in a management system so that collected information can be later analyzed.(Isaac 2015) The file in which the data is saved can be labeled in steps of information needed and collected. This will keep the researcher on tract and systematically organized. Another way to stay organized is to keep notes on research collected in a chronological order. The researcher can note data by characteristics, events, activity, and events.(Isaac 2015) Interviews completed can be added and information collected can be added under the notes section in the labeled file. All information will be kept under the category needed and this will allow the researcher to make sure all missing data is obtained. It is important for the researcher to continuously document on data needed and obtained to efficiently complete the research needed because qualitative data creates mountains of words.
