do you agree it is self evident that all men are created equal
The article “the Declaration of Independence†and “what does Fourth of July mean to negro†was talking about how black people were still being a slave on Fourth of July while the white people were celebrating, the Declaration of Independence. I agree it is “self-evident†that all men are created equal, even though black people still an object of violence racism.
People who are not seeing what slave people been through are the people who mostly know what all men are created equal means. They have seen the color of their skin, they have seen how much power they had in society. I think this statement is very important because it shows how we as a human can be so ignorant of our own race and how we shouldn’t be. If you look at the history of slavery, there was a lot of discrimination against black. They were treated like animals and were treated like property. They were given no rights and could only work for money or food so they were not allowed to go out and live with other people.
Let’s take the idea of equality. For the Americans, it was largely a matter of equality before the law. When Jefferson wrote in the Declaration, “we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are life, Liberty and the pursuit of happinessâ€. He meant that human beings were equal in their possession of legal rights. He did not mean that all people were equal in talent, merit, wealth, or social status. Rather they were equal, as human beings, in their right pursue their interest and dream without the government questioning them.
