Development of Clinical Question Assignment Instructions
As a practitioner it is important that clinical recommendation be based on the best available evidence. In order to apply the best evidence, the practitioner must be able locate the evidence. Searching for the best evidence begins with developing sound clinical question that is derived from the reviewing the patientâ€™s chart and findings from the patient assessment. The goal of this assignment is to develop a clinical question using a PICO format (patient, intervention, comparator, and outcome).
Using the assignment template develop a PICO-style clinical question. The template has two parts. Part I, the student must identify a patient, intervention, comparator, and outcome. In part II, the student must type the clinical question out as one complete sentence. The question needs to include the P, I, C, and O in parentheses at the corresponding sections of the sentence where the item is introduced. Please see below for examples of part I and II. The student will first submit a draft of their PICO-style clinical question. The instructor will grade the submission and provide student feedback and recommendations within 6 days of the due date. If the assignment is submitted after the due the assignment will be graded, and feedback provided within 6 days of the submission. The student will address the instructor’s comments and submit their finalized clinical question by the specified due date.
