The Past, the Present, the Future
Regarded as one of the most influential systems thinking theorists, Peter Senge has identified five disciplines that are necessary for building a learning organization: personal mastery, mental models, building a shared vision, team learning, and finally, systems thinking. Each of these components play a crucial role in effective organizations; however, without the fifth discipline, systems thinking, the other four cannot be integrated together sufficiently to obtain an accurate understanding of the organization and what is really happening on all levels within the organization.
As you review the Learning Resources this week, continue your research in the Walden University Library, and prepare your Discussion posting, contemplate the following.
Think about how you would articulate the theory of systems thinking for individuals who are not familiar with its concepts.
What key principles and terms would need to be included to make your explanation understandable?
Note: You do not need to directly answer these points in your Discussion post as they serve only to begin your thinking process; however, you must explain your reasoning as you formulate your formal response.
Now answer and addresses the following.
Reflect on the following statement: “Today’s problems come from yesterday’s ‘solutions'” (Senge, 2006, p. 57).
- Provide a current business example illustrating what Senge has inferred in this statement.
- How can systems thinking help businesses to avoid this type of occurrence?
All work in APA format with proper citing!
