Servant Leadership in Practice
3 DQ 1Servant leadership is a style of leadership that places emphasis on serving followers before leading then. (GCU). Also, Servant leadership is a follower-centered leadership theory that focused on call to serve and then followed by the desire to lead (Thomas,2018). The principle is centered on the servant leader working from a purely moral perspective and focusing on the follower first by empowering them to achieve that organization goals.Qualities of servant leadership:Listening: communication begins with listening; Servant leader have an innate ability to hear what others what others are saying through both verbal and nonverbal communication and reflect upon what they hear to lead a group to its full potential. (Thomas 2018) excellent listening and ability to communicate promote professional patient care. It is imperative for the leader to listen to other health care members and patients without judgment, think before reacting, use foresight an intuition and choose words wisely, (Whitney,2018). The Servant nurse as part of the health care team do not only engage in other professional interaction with other members, but also listens to the patients’ needs which will maintain team work, establish trust, confidence and enhance patients care.Awareness: More particularly self-awareness brings deep insight into one’s ability to influence present and future situations. (Thomas 2018). Awareness enables leaders gain total control over his/her thought processes/emotions and how they can affect other health care teams which will allow others to communicate any concern or issue about patient without fear.Describe the fundamental principles of servant leadership.
