The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution recognizes that â€œ[a] well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.â€ Recently, there has been quite a bit of disagreement about the meaning of this provision and the rights that it recognizes. The United States Supreme Court explored the meaning of the Second Amendment in a few recent cases: District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008); McDonald v. Chicago, 561 U.S. 742 (2010).
