Paper Guidelines:
- Written text should be a maximum of 3-pages.
- Include a cover page (not included in word or page count).
- Attach a separate reference page (not included in word or page count).
- Write your paper in first person (I)
- Note: Papers exceeding the prescribed page limit (five pages total; one cover page, three pages of narrative, and one reference page) will not be graded.
- APA format, including:
- Double-spaced with 1-inch margins, Times New Roman 12-point font or Arial 11-point font.
- Use the section headings as follows (you do not need a section heading for the Introduction):
- Introduction (DO NOT use a heading for the intro)
- Assessing Emotional Intelligence (Heading 1)
- Authentic Leadership (Heading 2)
- Definition of Leadership (Heading 3)
- Summary (Heading 4)
- NOTE: Only use Level 1 Headings (no Level 2 headings should be used in this short paper)
- Note:
- Cite all sources in the reference list.
- Failure to cite all sources is plagiarism.
- Limit the use of direct quotes.
- Write your paper, including these sections:
- Introduction
- Provide a brief (one paragraph) introduction with the intention of presenting the topic and the purpose (stated) of your paper to the reader.
- Assessing Emotional Intelligence (Be sure you have completed the Emotional Intelligence Appraisal before you begin this section.)
- Write a 1/2 to 1-page summary and include the following:
- Identify your strongest emotional intelligence (EI) skill and your weakest EI skill. (You do not need to give your actual scores.)
- For your strongest skill, give an example that illustrates how this component of emotional intelligence could be an asset in your future role as an advanced practice nurse or in advanced nursing practice.
- Give a rationale for your example. Support the rationale for your example by citing information from the text by Bradberry and Greaves (2009) and/or other course resources.
- Write a 1/2 to 1-page summary and include the following:
- Authentic Leadership
- Apply content from the Emotional Intelligence text, Chapters 2 & 3 in Marquis and Huston (2021), articles by Shirey (2006, 2009), and other course resources to discuss the following:
- Compare and contrast transformational, transactional, and authentic leadership styles.
- Give an example that illustrates how an authentic leadership style could be an asset in your future leadership role(s) in advanced nursing practice. Provide a rationale for your example.
- Include at least one citation from a peer-reviewed journal article to support the rationale for your example. (You may use articles posted in the course or articles from outside the course as sources.) The cited article (or articles) must be relevant to the discussion.
- Apply content from the Emotional Intelligence text, Chapters 2 & 3 in Marquis and Huston (2021), articles by Shirey (2006, 2009), and other course resources to discuss the following:
- Definition of Leadership
- Give your written definition of “leadership”.
- Apply content from the Emotional Intelligence text, Chapters 2 & 3 in Marquis and Huston (2021), articles by Shirey (2006, 2009), and other course resources to describe how that definition of leadership will influence your role development as an APN or in advanced nursing practice.
- Include at least one citation from a peer-reviewed journal article to support your discussion of role development. If only one article is cited, it must be a different article than the one cited in section 3. (You may use articles posted in the course or articles from outside the course as sources.) The cited article (or articles) must be relevant to the discussion.
- Summary
- Provide a brief (one paragraph) summary of your paper.
