Most companies deal with managing resources, people, products and services and by doing this they use a universal platform that can rate all attributes and control performance. The use of an Enterprise Resource Planning software has evolved from being only used at manufacturing companies to major industries now such as businesses, health care, government, and financial institutes. The ERP has the capability to carry out a unified business process across various departments like the human resources, distribution, and finance using tools that share a shared data model operating on a single database with full coverage of end to end progressions.
According to Beheshti & Beheshti (2010), one of the functions of an ERP in a business is to coordinate manufacturing, orders, inventories, accounting and even supply chain because it offers more advantages by making operation easier and fewer error prone using a sole database system instead of using a bunch of systems for every step of the production process. By the same token, one of the best opportunities of implementing the ERP system is its ability to be flexible with the structures as a result, making it easy for users to familiarize fast while utilizing its potential with big data and still assuring security.
Given these points, as an IT manager, I would implement the use of ERP system to improve visibility across departments with the determination of having a central or unified reporting system for numerous processes carried out. With the aptitude to analyze and relate functions across all the branches involved in the business, ERP will enable a hassle-free action and eradicate any monotonous manual procedure, therefore, leaving employees to focus issues affecting companyâ€™s revenue.
